Oct 18th, 2016 – Mary Flower entertained a crowd of close to forty folks with a wide variety of instrumental tunes, ranging from Piedmont to ragtime to blues plus sang a number original compositions in an intimate show at the hall. At the end of the evening she called up Sam Hurrie fora couple of acoustic blues tunes and closed the night off with Good-Night Irene with Natham Tinklan , who was last here with Cindy Church. The was the conclusion of Mary’s brief and Canadian fall tour and she once again mesmerized the crowd with him considerable prowess on the guitar.
Hot off her appearances at this summer’s Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Harrison music festivals, we’re thrilled to bring Mary back to Powell River after 5 years.
Mary’s immense fingerpicking guitar and lap-slide prowess is soulful and meter-perfect, her supple honey-and-whiskey voice provides the perfect melodic accompaniment to each song’s story.
“With her warm contralto and dazzling skills as an instrumentalist, and arranger Mary Flower has cemented her status as one of the most dynamic performers on the acoustic blues circuit. Mary is deep in the pocket of the country blues and there are few musicians in the genre bringing as much creative spark and low-key mojo to this century-old music.”
